Twist Bioscience, Illumina and Western Digital Form Alliance with Microsoft to Advance Data Storage in DNA

Claude Nobs Foundation and EPFL’s Montreux Jazz Digital Project are honored to be part of the “DNA Data Storage Alliance”, announced today, with founding partners Microsoft Research, Twist Bioscience, Illumina and Western Digital.
We are very excited to collaborate on a long-term solution for archival DNA storage of digital data and to support the efforts to fasten development of such a promising archiving technology.

The Alliance mission: "Create and promote a new, zettabyte scale*, enduring, always recoverable, format-stable, widely adopted, and cost-effective DNA archival storage ecosystem for the explosive growth of digital data"

In 2017, the songs “Smoke on the Water” by legendary band Deep Purple and “Tutu” by Miles Davis, performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival were the first audio recordings in a high-quality uncompressed format to be written onto DNA.
